One thing that has always shown that the English ruling class are morally fairly sound, is that in time of war they are ready enough to get themselves killed.... What is to be expected of them is not treachery or physical cowardice, but stupidity, unconscious sabotage, an infallible instinct for doing the wrong thing. They are not wicked, or not altogether wicked; they are merely unteachable. Only when their money and power are gone will the younger among them begin to grasp what century they are living in.
– George Orwell, The Lion and the Unicorn, 1941.
With this in mind, I wrote an op-ed for Newsweek (yes, Newsweek!) about the insatiable establishment appetite for war in Ukraine, but also an alternative resolution.
We’ve seen this movie before. A decades-long war, and inevitably, after the enrichment of Lockheed Martin and others, a return to the status quo ante (at best).
So, you know, to pinch from that TikTok song – can we skip to the good part?
Read my Newsweek piece please, and let me know in the comments section below what you think (I am in fact vain enough to read all the comments).
Raheem.
I can't believe Newsweek published this piece, but Bravo! No new wars! Defend our own borders first. I like reading your stuff. I hear your voice (which I can't get enough of!) and I sometimes need to break out the dictionary...learning is good. Bottom line, you are correct. The elegant answer is the right answer. Peace and diplomacy get my vote.
Defend Ukraine's sovereignty? Brought to you by the same globalists who want to remake the international system in their own image by eliminating western civilization's concepts of God, individual rights and freedoms, and the sovereignty of nation states - all the while lining their own pockets.
